Mass Attorney General Maura Healy Unilaterally Bans Legal, Commonly Owned Firearms

On Wednesday, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey sent a directive to all manufacturers and dealers in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that commonly owned, semi-automatic rifles made in compliance with the decades-old assault weapons ban, would be considered "copies" and sales would be prohibited immediately. NSSF has already begun working with member companies and state lawmakers and will consider legal action. Coincidently, on the morning of the press conference Maura Healey's OpEd appeared prominently in the Boston Globe.

Trump Accepts GOP Nomination

The Republican party officially nominated Donald Trump as their nominee on Tuesday, and on Thursday evening, Trump accepted the nomination and laid out his vision for America, including the rights of Americans to keep their families safe. While taking a swipe at Hillary Clinton, who will be officially nominated next week in Philadelphia at the Democratic National Convention, Donald Trump said, "My opponent wants to essentially abolish the Second Amendment. I on the other hand received the early and strong endorsement of the National Rifle Association. And will protect the right of all Americans to keep their families safe." Read more.

#GUNVOTE: Guns at Forefront at GOP Convention

Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump, Vice Presidential nominee Mike Pence, RNC Chairman Reince Preibus, Eric Trump, Donald Trump, Jr., and NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox all discussed firearms and the importance of protecting the Second Amendment in their speeches at the RNC in Cleveland this week. It is safe to say that next week, when Democrats assemble in Philadelphia to officially nominate Hillary Clinton, it will be a drastically different message. New ARS Playbook

Americans for Responsible Solutions, the Gun Control Group led by former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (D) and her husband Mark Kelly, released a new playbook for anti-gun lawmakers and advocates about how to craft a more effective message when promoting gun control efforts. In reference to the strategy, NSSF's Larry Keane told Politico, "Saying it isn't gun control doesn't mean it isn't gun control. Their agenda remains the same." Read more.

Delaware Governor Signs Sunday Hunting Bill

The Delaware Sunday hunting bill, supported by NSSF, has now been signed by Gov. Jack Markell. NSSF would like to thank all the legislators who supported this important bill along with the members and Co-Chairs of the Delaware Sportsmen's Caucus who were vocal sponsors on the legislation. The bill allows for deer hunting on five Sundays during the hunting season at the discretion of private property owners and on public lands to be designated by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control following public hearings to discuss the lands to be open for the activity. NSSF again would like to thank all those who worked to pass this legislation this is a great victory for all sportsmen in the state.

Former Attorney General Calls for Police to Support Stricter Gun Control

In response to the recent tragedies in Dallas and Baton Rouge, former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder called on law enforcement officers to join in advocating for stricter gun control laws.

"It is far past time for those of you in law enforcement to join with other responsible Americans and take on the mindless, industry-driven gun lobby that values an illogical individual ability to possess military-grade weapons more than the lives of the American people, in general, and our law enforcement personnel, in particular. Speak up," said Holder.

This comes as no surprise from Holder, whose resume includes anti-gun speeches going back to 1995, when he called for "brainwashing" American youth against gun ownership. Read More.
