First-time shooter Kayla Perkowski, 18, of Slatington, Pa., said she came out to the First Shots seminar to learn about handguns and local requirements. She attended with her boyfriend and his mother.

Two seminars filled with Allentown, Pa.-area residents were held this past Saturday during the IDPA National Championships at Guthsville Rod and Gun in Orefield, Pa. People ages 11 to 71 had a chance to learn firearm safety, Pennsylvania handgun requirements and take their First Shots while learning how they can advance their shooting education and get involved in action shooting locally.

With the IDPA competition right next door, attendees had a chance to view competitors engaging targets from behind barriers, on the move and even while sitting on a motorcycle. All expressed a great interest in the action shooting and many stayed beyond the seminar to view additional stages and meet some of the local competitors.

IDPA, in partnership Guthsville Rod & Gun and local retailer King Shooters Supply, (www.betterbullets.com) made sure these first-time shooters knew how to get involved and where to go to learn more about equipment and choosing the right firearm for their personal interest.

A full page ad in the match book informed competitors of the First Shots seminars and many volunteered assistance when they saw the turnout. IDPA area coordinators along with COR-BON, Smith &Wesson and Elite Operator Tactical team shooters were on hand to provide expert advise and work one-on-one with the shooters.

A school teacher who attended with her entire family said she thought the "seminar was awesome!" She was so enthusiastic about shooting her first bulls-eye that the entire family went on to spend quite a bit more time at the side matches shooting larger calibers.

All attendees went home with great information provided by First Shots industry supporters to help them practice firearm safety, remember shooting fundamentals and where and how to continue their new shooting hobby.
