Nation's Firearms Industry Executives Conduct Successful Congressional Fly-In

Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) addressed NSSF 2016 Congressional Fly-In attendees.

SUCCESSFUL CONGRESSIONAL FLY-IN . . . Executives from the nation's firearms and ammunition manufacturers, distributors and leading retailers were in Washington, D.C., last week for the annual Congressional Fly-In sponsored by NSSF, holding a record number of meetings with Members of Congress to discuss the industry's $49.3 billion national economic impact, the Bipartisan Sportsmen's Act, export control reform, Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, and funding for Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) functions to provide better, more timely service to industry members.

  • ASK YOUR SENATORS TO SUPPORT BIPARTISAN SPORTSMEN'S ACT AMENDMENT . . . After meeting with industry executives during the NSSF Congressional Fly-In, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell secured unanimous consent for the Senate to finish consideration of S.2012, Energy Policy Modernization Act. The Senate will vote on Sen. Murkowski's Amendment (#3234) containing major portions of the Bipartisan Sportsmen's Act, the most important pro-sportsmen's legislation in a generation. Call your senators today at 202-224-3121 or email them today and urge them to support both the Murkowski Amendment 3234 and vote for final passage of S.2012, Energy Policy Modernization Act.

  • STATE ROUNDUP . . . Georgia House Bill 1060, including the Georgia Firearms Industry Nondiscrimination Act (FIND) to protect those involved in the lawful commerce of firearms or ammunition products against financial services discrimination, awaits Gov. Deal's action. Contact Gov. Deal, urge him to sign HB 1060. The California Assembly Committee on Public Safety last week approved AB 2459 to require firearms retailers to videotape all firearms transfers and keep the footage for three years, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. NSSF continues to oppose the bill.

New York's presidential primary election for both Republicans and Democrats is Tuesday and the results are considered to be pivotal for the parties' candidate selections.   • BERETTA CUTS RIBBON FOR NEW TENN. PLANT . . . Beretta USA held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday to officially open its new 160,000-square-foot Gallatin, Tennessee, manufacturing facility. The Volunteer State's economic gain is the direct result of the restrictive gun laws passed in Beretta's former Maryland plant location. Beretta had been manufacturing in Maryland since the 1980s, when it started production of the standard M-9 sidearm to the U.S. military. The company maintains some offices in Accokeek, Maryland.   • BROWNELL'S OPENS RETAIL STORE . . . Brownell's, the 77-year-old company specializing in gun parts, accessories and ammunition, has taken a big step and opened a 7,000-square foot retail store near Grinnell, Iowa. In addition to drawing a crowd of customers, the new store was a stop on the tour for Ted Cruz and other candidates during the Iowa caucuses. And Governor Terry Branstad was at the store last month to sign a bill legalizing gun suppressors, according to an article in the Des Moines Register.
