  • ATF WARNS N.C., S.C. FFLs OF THEFTS . . . The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Charlotte Field Division, has sent a letter to Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) in North Carolina and South Carolina to inform them of a series of recent burglaries and attempted break-ins in the Charlotte, Greenville and Columbia metro regions. ATF is advising retailers to be vigilant of individuals acting suspiciously that may be checking for store vulnerabilities in planning future thefts.

  • ATF Q&A . . . Many great questions came in on our 24/7 NSSF member compliance hotline last week. One question asks what an FFL should do when it finds it has lost a completed Form 4473. Another question asks what information should be entered into the A&D records in regards to the heading "Type" under "Description of Firearm."

Government Relations

  • GEORGIA FIREARMS INDUSTRY PROTECTION LEGISLATION AWAITS GOVERNOR'S PEN . . . The NSSF-initiated Georgia Firearms Industry Nondiscrimination Act (FIND Act) passed the Georgia General Assembly. Originally started as Senate Bill 282, but later added to omnibus pro-gun House Bill 1060, the measure awaits Gov. Deal's signature. Those involved in the lawful commerce of firearms and related products continue to experience discrimination from financial service providers. Please contact Gov. Deal today and respectfully urge him to sign HB 1060 into law.

  • NSSF SEEKS TO INTERVENE IN TRADITIONAL AMMO CASE . . . NSSF has filed a motion to intervene in Center for Biological Diversity v. U.S. Forest Service pending in Arizona federal district court. The anti-hunting group plaintiffs seek prohibition of traditional lead ammunition for hunting in the Kaibab National Forest as a disposal of hazardous waste under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. If the court were to rule in their favor, a traditional ammunition ban could conceivably extend to any land on which hunting occurs.

  • LEGAL ROUNDUP . . . The Missouri Supreme Court has remanded to trial court a lawsuit brought by a widow against a pawn shop for selling the firearm used by her daughter to kill her own father. The lower court had dismissed the suit. NSSF filed a brief to argue the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) preempts claims based on criminal misuse. Briefing has concluded in the joint NSSF/SAAMI appeal challenging California's law that all semi-automatic pistols be equipped with dual-placement microstamping technology.
