DOJ Awards NSSF $2.4 Million for Project ChildSafe

TWO-YEAR GRANT . . . The U.S. Department of Justice has selected NSSF to receive a two-year, $2.4 million grant to provide firearm safety education messaging and free gun locks through NSSF's Project ChildSafe program to communities throughout the country, with the goal of encouraging responsible firearm storage and helping reduce firearm accidents, theft and misuse. "We thank the Department of Justice for its recognition of this important program," said Steve Sanetti, NSSF's President and CEO. "We'll work to build on previous efforts and further raise awareness of the simple precautions gun owners can take to store firearms securely when not in use." The new grant from DOJ will likewise be instrumental in making even more free gun locks available to more gun owners nationwide. Read more.

  • JEFF FOXWORTHY RETURNING TO HEADLINE 2016 STATE OF THE INDUSTRY DINNER . . . Jeff Foxworthy will be returning to the 2016 SHOT Show's State of the Industry Dinner as the headline entertainment sharing his comedic perspective on everyday life. The State of the Industry Dinner recognizes the important accomplishments of our industry during the last year as well as addresses the important challenges we'll face in the upcoming year.   • GEN. REBECCA HALSTEAD TO DELIVER KEYNOTE ADDRESS . . . We are pleased to announce that Brig. Gen. (ret.) Rebecca Halstead will be delivering the keynote address, STEADFAST Leadership, at the 2016 SHOT Show University. Halstead is on the board and faculty of the Thayer Leader Development Group (TLDG) at West Point and a winner of the Leadership Excellence award presented by Leadership Excellence Magazine.   • CELERANT TECHNOLOGY'S FIREARMS SPECIALIST JON JUDY . . . Speaking on the benefits a centralized point-of-sale management software system can provide firearms retailers and range operators will be Jon Judy, Celerant's Implementation Manager/Trainer and a firearms specialist with the company.   • #GUNVOTE VIDEO: PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES ON FIREARMS IN OWN WORDS . . . To help gun owners to register to vote and evaluate candidates' positions on Second Amendment and sportsmen's issues, NSSF provides #GUNVOTE, our voter education site, which we update regularly with news of interest. We are pleased to announce that we have posted our first video of the 2016 campaign season.

  • FEDERAL AND STATE ROUNDUP . . . NSSF's program to match Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for thefts from federally licensed firearms retailers is active. Matching rewards have been announced in FFL theft investigations in four states. Inmates in a Chicago-area jail overwhelmingly report obtaining their firearms from family, friends or on the black market. Only 1.5 percent claimed they obtained their guns from a retailer.

  • SIGNING UP FOR NSSF PAC NOW EASIER FOR MEMBER COMPANIES . . . The NSSF Political Action Committee (NSSF PAC) supports pro-firearms industry, pro-Second Amendment and pro-sportsmen candidates for federal office. Federal law requires a trade association PAC to obtain prior approval from its corporate members before it may send PAC news and updates to corporate member's executives, including current political news, election information and exclusive invitations to PAC events. Over the next several months, NSSF will present a series of articles to help manufacturers, retailers, wildlife management agencies, tourism departments and others in the hunting community better understand their hunting customers. Today, the first article of the series was released. By providing a clearer understanding of hunters, we believe the hunting community can do even better in recruiting and retaining customers, boosting sales revenue and increasing conservation funding through license sales and excise taxes.   • HUNTING WORKS FOR AMERICA EXPANDS WITH WASHINGTON CHAPTER . . . The Hunting Works For America program continues to grow its presence with the addition of a Hunting Works For Washington chapter. The newest chapter, launched recently in Spokane at the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council, boasts an impressive list of local co-chairs and over 50 partner groups.   • USA SHOOTING WOMEN WIN SIX MEDALS AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS . . . U.S. women skeet athletes dominated at the International Shooting Sport Federation Shotgun World Championship in Lonato, Italy. Morgan Craft captured the gold medal and Caitlin Connor the silver in the Open division, while Sydney Carson and Dania Vizzi took the silver and bronze, respectively, in the Junior division. The U.S. squads won the team gold in both divisions as well. Read the news release.
