Government Relations

  • NSSF RESPONDS TO PROPOSED NICS CHANGE . . . Gun control groups and Congressional allies are proposing to change federal law that provides the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) three business days to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to deny a firearms purchase. Citing the Charleston tragedy, they say the FBI/NICS examiner did not have enough time to finish the background check. NSSF is on the Hill and responding. Read NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Larry Keane's new blog post.

  • STATE AND LEGAL ROUNDUP . . . The Seattle City Council is considering a tax on all firearms and every round of ammunition sold within city limits. One San Francisco supervisor wants all gun and ammunition sales videotaped. In Illinois, improvements in the concealed carry and Firearms Owners Identification acts have been signed into law by Gov. Rauner. The U.S. Justice Department has filled its brief in federal appeals court seeking to overturn the lower court ruling that struck down the interstate handgun transfer ban.
