NBC Sports Renews Sponsorship of
New Product Center at SHOT Show

FOR SECOND YEAR . . . NBC Sports Network will again be the official sponsor of the 2013 SHOT Show New Product Center--the showcase for innovative, new equipment being introduced to the hunting, shooting, outdoors and law enforcement markets. NBC Sports is a long-established sports brand synonymous with big events and the highest-quality production and outdoor programming, which has been an integral part of this network since 1995, and will continue to live on in its new home, NBC Sports Outdoors. The SHOT Show is owned and sponsored by NSSF and is produced and managed by Reed Exhibitions. The show is the largest of its kind in the world, attracting more than 60,000 attendees and 1,600 companies exhibiting firearms, ammunition, outdoor apparel, law enforcement, optics, cutlery and related products and services. "For many buyers and members of the media who attend the SHOT Show, their first stop is the New Product Center, which we are proud to announce will be sponsored again by the NBC Sports Network," said Chris Dolnack, NSSF senior vice president and chief marketing officer. "At the NBC Sports Outdoors New Product Center, show attendees and media will be able to view some of the most exciting products consumers will be able to buy in 2013." The SHOT Show will run Jan. 15-18 at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas. Learn more at www.shotshow.org. Register now: Attendees | Media

  • SHOT SHOW UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES SESSION & SPEAKER SCHEDULE . . . The ever-popular and consistently sold-out SHOT Show University day long series of seminars for firearms retailers attending the SHOT Show will be presenting an expert "faculty" of retailing experts to address the attendees at the Monday, Jan. 14, event in Las Vegas. The value of networking with fellow retailers and perhaps having mealtime and reception opportunities to talk to the presenters one-on-one can't be underestimated, but for all in attendance the highlight is the money-making, business-building information dispensed by the speakers. See the impressive list of presenters. Reserve your spot while one is still available.

  • JOIN NSSF FOR $35: FREE LEGAL CONSULTATION AVAILABLE TO MEMBER RETAILERS . . . To celebrate 35 years of NSSF's SHOT Show, NSSF retail/range memberships for a limited time are as low as $35. Retailers can take advantage of this offer while registering for the show or by visiting nssf.org. In addition to all of NSSF's retailer-specific benefits -- including access to ATF compliance consulting, FFL Hotline, NSSF research and more -- retailer members are entitled to a free one-time 15-minute legal consultation provided by an industry attorney for issues relating to ATF regulations. Here's how it works: Members facing a federal legal issue can contact NSSF member services, which will relay the issue to the industry attorney. If the attorney believes the issue qualifies under this NSSF program, a consultant will contact the member directly. If any additional services are needed, NSSF will refer the member to other industry attorneys, whose costs are to be picked up by the member.

  • NICS ENCOURAGES ENROLLMENT IN NICS E-CHECK . . . With the busy firearms-purchasing season in full swing, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) expects to make necessary modifications to its customer service to accommodate incoming NICS background checks as efficiently as possible. Such modifications might include during NICS' busiest hours suspension of customer service calls, including NICS transaction status checks, Appeal or Voluntary Appeal File-related questions and general NICS-related questions. NICS recommends FFLs enroll with the NICS E-Check, which allows 24/7 checking of the status of all of your NICS Transaction Numbers (NTNs). You can also sign up at the NICS website to receive notification of these "2012 Busy Season" modifications and messages/updates pertaining to NICS.

  • NEW BACKGROUND CHECK NOTICE REQUIRED JAN. 1, 2013 . . . Starting Jan. 1, 2013, employers conducting background checks on employees and job applicants will be required to provide a new version of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) "Summary of Consumer Rights" notice to these individuals before taking any adverse employment action against them based on the background check. Employers know that under the FCRA they must make certain disclosures before they terminate, refuse to hire or deny someone a promotion based on the results of a background check. Generally, employers must provide the individual with a copy of the background check report and a notice summarizing the individual's rights under the FCRA. Since taking over primary FCRA enforcement responsibility from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the newly created Consumer Financial Protection Board (CFPB) has issued regulations calling for the use of a new "Summary of Consumer Rights" notice. Employers may continue to use the current FTC version of the notice through the end of the year. Thereafter, they must use the new CFPB version available here.

  • FIREARMS RETAILER GRATEFUL FOR INDUSTRY'S REWARD OFFER . . . When the NSSF matched the reward being offered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thief or thieves who stole 23 handguns from an Indiana firearms retailer, NSSF was practicing a policy it has had in place for such incidents. For the co-proprietor of that store, The Angler Bait and Tackle, in Helmer, Ind., however, NSSF's actions were viewed as more than simply standard operating procedure. "It really means a lot to have the industry support small business like this and help in the arrest for this horrendous crime," "Susan," the co-owner said in a telephone message. "I'm speechless that you are matching the ATF reward. It really means a lot to me and my husband, Paul. Thank you so much."
