About the National Shooting Sports Foundation

The National Shooting Sports Foundation is the trade association for the firearms industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. Formed in 1961, NSSF has a membership of more than 6,500 manufacturers, distributors, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen's organizations and publishers.

Following a series of industry meetings in the late 1950s sponsored by Field & Stream magazine, NSSF was chartered in 1961 to promote a better understanding of and a greater participation in the hunting and shooting sports. Complete history.
