Ammunition
Assault in California
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) -- the trade association of the firearms and ammunition industry -- along with the California Association of Firearms Retailers, has waged an advertising campaign in opposition to AB 2062 -- legislation that would create severe restrictions on all ammunition sales and purchases in the Golden State.
ACTION STEPS
1. NSSF and the CAFR are asking individuals to visit their local firearms retailers to add their signature to the opposition petitions for AB 2062.
2. Print out a copy of the petition and go to your local retailer. If they are not a member of the CAFR or do not have a petition, encourage him or her to join CAFR immediately by e-mailing here.
3. NSSF and the CAFR are encouraging all California gun owners, sportsmen and firearms enthusiasts to contact your local Assembly Member today and urge him or her to stop wasting valuable tax dollars and oppose AB 2062. |

With the help of each and every California retailer, sportsman and gun-owner, this bill will be defeated AGAIN.
Listen to the Opposition Ad
Legislation (AB 2062) that would create obstacles for all ammunition sellers and purchasers was already defeated in the California Assembly Public Safety Committee once, but the sponsor has chosen to circumvent legislative rules by reintroducing the bill in the same session. Under the proposed legislation, all vendors selling handgun ammunition would need a specific handgun ammunition license that would be registered through the California Department of Justice.
This bill will not affect criminals and will only serve to punish law-abiding ammunition retailers and purchasers and California taxpayers who are footing the bill for the reintroduction of this legislation. "This is not the fiscal environment where legislators should be wasting time and money on legislation that is simply flawed," said Jake McGuigan, NSSF director of government relations. "This end run around the legislative rules should not be allowed to stand."
AB 2062 requires that purchasers of handgun ammunition be refused access to ammunition in the store without the assistance of a "qualified" salesperson that has gone through a mandatory background check. Consumers will be forced to wait for the one salesperson in the store that can legally handle the ammunition to help them. Furthermore, the purchaser would have to submit a thumbprint at the point of purchase that would then be sent to the California Department of Justice to be stored in a database. Finally, all sales of handgun ammunition would have to take place in a face-to-face transaction -- no mail orders.
This legislation stands no chance of curbing crime and will only hurt law-abiding firearms retailers and the law-abiding citizens who purchase ammunition. It is imperative that this bill be defeated.
