Hunting Preserves Open for Business

Now that hunting season is closed, are you wishing you had spent a bit more time afield with your friends and your trusty retriever? No problem. Hunting preserves across the country are still open for business, and in most states right to the end of March.

Today's hunting preserves offer great quality hunting from opening day to the last day of the season, and they offer easy access for hunters on more than 16-million acres of outstanding cover. With help from the National Shooting Sports Foundation and Black's Wing & Clay, you can find preserves easily. Log on to www.WingshootingUSA.org, and you’ll be greeted with more than a thousand places to go afield.

A hunting preserve is also the perfect place to introduce newcomers to hunting. In most states hunting licenses are not required, the guides are experienced, there's plenty of game and you’ll have many chances for success. Most preserves also offer clay target shooting and quality instruction, so you and your guest can warm up your shooting skills prior to heading out. If you do take a newcomer hunting, be sure to also enter NSSF's STEP OUTSIDE mentor sweepstakes at www.stepoutside.org for your chance at one of five $1,000 gift cards to Bass Pro Shops.

Firearm safety is an important part of every hunt. Whether you're heading out with an experienced friend or taking a new hunter afield for their first time, spending a few minutes reviewing the finer points of safety will ensure everyone enjoys a memorable day. NSSF's Wingshooting Safety video is a great safety reminder for us all and can be viewed online at www.WingshootingUSA.org. Free DVD copies are also available.

So, there's no need to wait until next hunting season to enjoy a great day afield. Grab your shotgun, your dog and a friend and head out to a preserve near you.
