SCTP Fast Facts 2007

Program Goals: - SAFE and Responsible Handling and Use of Firearms
- Character and Citizenship Development through Teamwork
- Introduction to a Lifetime Sport that Families can Enjoy Together
Program Sponsorship: The National Shooting Sports Foundation along with its partners the Amateur Trapshooting Association, the National Skeet Shooting Association, the National Sporting Clays Association and USA Shooting.
Program Disciplines: American: Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays Olympic / International: Bunker Trap, Int'l Skeet
Program Focus: TEAMS! Participation in the SCTP requires that one be a member of a team. Each team must register with the SCTP National Program Office.
SCTP Registration Cost: FREE through April 30 (although state fees may apply - contact your SCTP State Director.) A $20 late registration fee is required by National Headquarters for initial team registration submitted / received after April 30.
Team Supervision: An adult Coach leads each team.
Participant Eligibility: Students enrolled in Elementary, Middle, Junior, or Senior High School.
Basic Competitive Unit: The SQUAD. The minimum squad size is five (5) for Trap, three (3) for American Skeet & Sporting Clays and three (3) for Bunker Trap & Int'l Skeet. Teams must have at least one full squad to become an officially recognized SCTP team. There is no upper limit to the number of members on a team or to the number of squads a team may field.
Competitive Divisions: . Rookie Division - 5th graders and below
. Intermediate Division - 6th, 7th and 8th graders
. Jr. Varsity Division - 9th-12th graders*
. Varsity Division - 9th-12th graders*
[*Division assignment is based on a combination of one's time in the SCTP and squad placement in SCTP National Championship events.]
Competitive Levels: Competition is conducted at state and national levels for American disciplines. Competition will be conducted at regional and national levels for International (Olympic) disciplines.
Special Event Awards: Awards will be presented to the top three placing squads from each division at the SCTP state & national events for each of the three American disciplines and at the SCTP regional & national events for both of the International disciplines. Scholarship I-Bonds are also awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place squads from the Intermediate, Jr. Varsity and Varsity divisions at the SCTP Nationals for Trap, Skeet & Sporting Clays. Refer to the SCTP handbook or website for more details on awards.
Program Apparel:: Registered coaches & team members receive a free SCTP hat.
Program Assistance: A limited number of Program Support Packages are available to help qualifying new teams get started. These support packages include ammunition, targets, shell pouches and eye and ear protection.
