2008 Junior Olympic Development Camp
The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP®) and U.S.A. Shooting will
again co-host a Junior Olympic Development Camp (JODC) specifically for
SCTP participants (competitors, coaches, assistant coaches and state
directors) that will feature international skeet and Olympic trap (bunker
trap).
The purpose of this camp is to assist U.S.A. Shooting in its pursuit
of talented shooters who have potential to become U.S. Olympic Team members
and ultimately Olympic champions. All currently registered and active
SCTP competitors age 12 and over are eligible to apply. In addition,
active SCTP coaches and/or state directors may apply. We will be looking
for participants that are interested in continuing on in these styles
and also have access to a range or to a facility that is able to simulate
the disciplines of bunker trap and international skeet. For those that
do not have access to an actual bunker or an international skeet field,
wobble traps and American skeet fields can be set for Olympic style
training.
NOTE: SCTP Participants may only attend the JODC once
Selection criteria for athletes include (but are not limited
to):
- Scores, Registered Target Score history
- Character, Maturity
- Interest
- Availability
- One’s ability to pursue the Int’l disciplines (Range
access) & benefit from the clinic
Interested athletes will have to submit the application/ consent and
waiver form and supply the required essay via the
SCTP Web site. These
forms are due no later than June 1, 2008. Application packets
will also need to be printed, signed and sent to SCTP
Headquarters along with any other materials to be considered by June
1, 2008.
Selection criteria for coaches and/or state directors include:
- Level of commitment and involvement in the SCTP
- Level of commitment to the future of shooting sports
- One’s ability to pursue the Int’l disciplines (Range
access) and benefit from the clinic
Adults selected to attend the JODC will have the opportunity to intern
with the Olympic Coaching Staff, function as chaperones and participate
in the Shotgun Coach Certification Program. Interested adults must submit
the application/ consent and waiver form and supply the required essay
via the SCTP Web site. These forms are due no later than June
1, 2008. Application packets will also need to be printed, signed and
sent to SCTP Headquarters along with any other materials to be considered
by June 1, 2008.
The dates for the 2008 JODC are September 7-14 inclusive. Refer
to the following schedule to determine the dates that will pertain to
you. All meals, lodging, targets and ammunition will be furnished for
all those selected to attend the 2008 JODC. Invitees will be responsible
for transportation to and from Colorado Springs.

Do's and Don'ts for the Application Process
- The initial JODC Application/Consent Waiver Form and essay must be
submitted online in order to qualify for consideration.
- Incomplete online applications and incomplete mailed-in application
packages will not be considered for selection.
- References, recommendations, photos or other supplemental materials are optional for your mail-in package.
- Do not submit more than one online application. Do not submit more
than one mail-in package.
- No faxes. No component of the JODC application package will be accepted
if faxed.
- Complete mail-in application packages must be received by June 1,
2008. Materials received after the deadline date will not be considered
and will not be returned.
- If you require receipt confirmation, send appropriately through your
U.S. mail service carrier or other delivery service.
- Final selection will be completed and all applicants will be notified
by e-mail. Please be sure your e-mail address is correct
when submitting your application.
