Overview: NSSF recognizes that only a small percentage of firearms owners are "well connected" to hunting and the shooting sports in that they belong to shooting ranges or hunting clubs where their friends and facility activities serve to motivate active and ongoing participation. A much larger portion of our customer base, especially newcomers and casual participants, are "at risk" of becoming inactive because they are not prompted or encouraged to get out on a regular basis. It is this "out of mind, out of action" syndrome that impacts not only recreational firearms use, but all leisure-time activities. While NSSF research confirms that an invitation from a friend is the most effective motivator in encouraging activity, we believe that "Pull The Trigger" serves as an "electronic friend," with a wide range of "try this" tips and activities each designed to prompt new and added participation. Uniquely, this monthly e-newsletter not only features inviting "how to" video tips but also includes multiple links with each item designed to help readers to more easily and more successfully participate in the hunting or shooting activities of their choice.
Description: An electronic newsletter, Pull The Trigger is designed to engage a broad spectrum of firearms owners with helpful tips, videos and articles that will provide the motivation for current participants to shoot and hunt more often and also to spark the re-activation of those who no longer are participating in the shooting sports. Targeted readers are target shooters (competitive and recreational), hunters, collectors, individuals interested in home and personal protection, and, as mentioned, those who are no longer active in the shooting sports.
Content Type: "Pull The Trigger" is filled tips, articles, videos and how-to-do-it guides that will get men, women and youngsters fired up about participating in the shooting sports and hunting, whether for the first time or the hundredth time. Content includes original articles and video segments produced by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in its state-of-the-art video studio, as well as links to articles and how-to video by other experts in the hunting and shooting community.
Value to Distribution Partners: Maintaining an active base of shooters and hunters is critical to every individual, company, organization and agency connected with the firearms and outdoor industry. "Pull the Trigger" is designed to maintain contact with firearm owners and outdoors enthusiasts with the goal of reminding them about the enjoyment that hunting and recreational shooting provide. "Pull The Trigger" has demonstrated a strong ability to drive traffic to the sender's Web site, providing new and relevant viewers for your messages and services.
Reach/Readership: "Pull The Trigger," launched as a trial in February 2010, is already being distributed to 800,000 valid e-mail addresses of firearms owners. Any business, organization or agency with an e-mail database of hunters and shooters will find that the content of "Pull The Trigger" provides an excellent way to stay in touch with recipients, provide added value, encourage participation in the shooting sports and to help drive traffic to Web sites, among other benefits.
Based on Research: "Pull The Trigger" is a response by NSSF to studies that show Americans, an estimated 98 million of them, are interested in going shooting and hunting, that "lapsed" participants can be reactivated if reached before they are inactive for too many years, and that target shooting and personal and home protection are the current big motivators in sales of firearms.
National Shooting Sports Foundation: NSSF is the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry. Founded in 1961, NSSF's mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. NSSF has a membership of more than 5,500 manufacturers, distributors, retailers, shooting range operators and media publishers.
