06. How many women target shoot in the U.S.?
- According to the National Sporting Goods Association (2005), of the 21.9 million active target shooters in the United States, 23% or 5.0 million are female. (Target shooters were defined by the NSGA through a nationwide survey of persons 7 years old and older who had participated more than once in the past year. Target shooting 'net' was defined as rifle, shotgun or handgun).
- Over 1.2 million females target shoot frequently (20 or more times per year).
- There are approximately 866,000 female Airgun target shooters, 3.0 million female handgun target shooters, 1.4 million female shotgun target shooters and 2.7 million female rifle target shooters in the United States.
