05. How many women hunt in the U.S.?
- According to the National Sporting Goods Association (2005), of the 20.9 million active hunters in the United States, 16% or 3.3 million are female. (Hunters were defined by the NSGA through a nationwide survey of persons 7 years old and older who had participated more than once in the past year.) The average age of female hunters (net) is 34.3.
- Over 859,000 females hunt frequently (20 or more times per year).
- The NSGA also found that women make up 12% of all bowhunters in the United States. Nearly 786,000 females went bowhunting more than once in the past year. The average age of female bowhunters is 37.9.
