About this Site

In 2007, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) partnered with the Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies (AFWA), to undertake a ground-breaking effort involving the recruitment and retention of hunters and target shooters.  The project, Best Practices in Hunting and Shooting Sports Recruitment & Retention, was supported through a grant from the Multi-State Conservation Grant program under the Wildlife Restoration Program.

NSSF convened a think tank of experts in the fields of education, social science, recreation, industry and public service to develop and determine research-based best professional practices for recruitment and retention for hunting and the shooting sports.

The result of these efforts is a toolkit of real-world, actionable tools for planning, development, enhancement, and/or evaluation of all recruitment and retention (R&R) programs and efforts.
