INDUSTRY LEADERS SPEAK AT ATF SEMINAR . . . NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane, National Association of Firearms Retailers President Larry Ahlman and O.F. Mossberg and Sons Senior Vice President and General Counsel Joseph Bartozzi spoke to a packed house of ATF special agents-in-charge and directors of industry operations concerning the relationship between the nation's federal firearms licensees and ATF.
"This was a great opportunity for industry to share its concerns and perceptions, particularly among retailers, about ATF," Alhman said.
Said Keane, "We are encouraged that ATF is genuinely concerned about its relationship with industry and how they are perceived. We share with ATF the desire to continually work to strengthen and improve the lines of communication at all levels between ATF and our industry members."
NSSF recommended that ATF form an ombudsmen's office for licensees to confidentially raise concerns about ATF without fear of reprisals. Another suggested improvement was the creation of an electronic Form 4473 that would greatly reduce paperwork errors that result in violations. However, the primary focus of the discussion was that ATF should improve and enhance the educational and training it provides to licensees.
