Mick Cope grew up in Colorado, completed his B.S. in biology at Pacific University in Oregon and received a M.S. from Montana State University-Bozeman in 1992 while working on a sharp-tailed grouse reintroduction project. After being hired by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife in 1992, Mick spent seven years managing a 14,000-acre wildlife area in western Washington before moving into the Olympia headquarters office where he became the Upland Game Section manager, a position he still holds. In 2006, he assumed responsibility for managing the Private Lands Access program for WDFW in addition to his Upland Game Section activities. Mick's professional interests include improving pheasant populations and finding creative ways to improve public access to private property.
