Tommy L. Brown

Tommy L. Brown is a senior research associate and leader of the Human Dimensions Research Unit (HDRU) at Cornell University, where he has worked since his original appointment in 1970. His degrees include the B.S. and M.S. from the University of Minnesota, with concentrations in outdoor recreation and social science research methods, followed by coursework in resource economics, statistics, and natural resources at Cornell University. Tom is a founding father of the human dimensions in wildlife research area nationally and founded Cornell's HDRU, the oldest research unit of its type in the nation. He has a number of publications on access to private lands for hunting and other activities, dating as far back as a 1972 study of landowner posting in New York. He was instrumental in forming a long-term human dimensions research partnership between Cornell University and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Bureau of Wildlife, which has been continuous since 1974. The 2007 HDRU annual report is available online.
